Jazz For Kids

Have you ever wondered how jazz musicians know when it's "their" turn to play, or how long to play? What are the secrets that jazz players know, and how do these tricks create the sounds of jazz?

Jazz for Kids introduces the sounds of jazz to students grades K-3 through live performance in a school setting. During this interactive program, musicians introduce jazz concepts and vocabulary while students listen, predict and participate. The carefully scripted program features standard jazz repertoire and is led by vocalist Lisa Clark and four outstanding local jazz musicians.

Main concepts introduced in Jazz for Kids include jazz "style", improvisation, call and response and trading 4's, while vocabulary includes tempo, key, melody, rhythm, improvisation, ballad, rock & roll and opera. Jazz for Kids meets several Academic Content Standards, available for download here.
