Chad Eby, Saxophone

Columbus Jazz Orchestra saxophonist Chad Eby was born on February 14, 1973 in Tarkio, Missouri. Soon after, his family moved to Iowa where he grew up and began his lifelong study of music. Chad’s parents had jazz records playing in the house almost constantly; Stan Getz and Dave Brubeck were his early favorites. His musical education began on the clarinet at the age of 11, picked up the saxophone a year later. He went on to study music at Luther College, completing his degree in music at the University of North Texas. From 1995 to 1998 Chad was a featured soloist with the Dallas Jazz Orchestra and can be heard on their 1998 recording, Scrapbook.

After graduating from North Texas, Eby and his wife moved to Columbus, Ohio. He released his first album, Triptych, in 2000 and completed his masters degree from The Ohio State University in 2001. Gaining critical acclaim from AllAboutJazz.com, and fellow saxophonists such as Branford Marsalis, Wessel Anderson, and Tim Warfield, Eby is awaiting the release of a second album.

Eby is currently on the faculty at Otterbein College, and also maintains a private studio of approximately 20 students. When not teaching or performing, Eby spends quality time with his wife Carmen and their growing family.
